2019 – 2020 Scholarship Guidelines Checklist and Timetable

The Monterey County Historical Society invites sophomore, junior or senior year students to apply. Scholarship shall be awarded to student(s) commencing their third year in DATE: FALL SEMESTER 2019

Applicants must:

  • Be legal residents of the United States.
  • Live within Monterey County with preference to graduates of high schools within Monterey County.
  • Be enrolled and attending agriculturally-related programs.
  • Recipients shall maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA AND a minimum of 12 units per semester and/or quarter throughout the life of the scholarship.
  • Applicants must be committed to using their degree(s) to fill agricultural industry needs.

The Monterey County Historical Society pledges to renew the $10,000 scholarship for up to seven additional years.

The scholarship(s) shall not exceed $20,000 per academic year. The family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) will be a factor in determining the amount of the scholarship.

5. Any additional information that the scholarship committee requires.

TIMETABLE

February 2019:   Scholarship forms and materials available for students at college/university financial aid offices/websites. Students may also review Scholarship Checklist, Time Table and Application Procedure at: http://mchsmuseum.com/salinas/about-society/jensen-scholarship/ and then directly contact the Monterey County Historical Society and request an application packet through email: mchs@redshift.com

April 25, 2019:    Completed scholarship forms must be submitted to the Monterey County Historical Society.

April 30-May 20:   Scholarship applicants interviewed by members of the Monterey County Historical Society Scholarship Committee.

Recipient Notification

Only the scholarship recipient will be notified directly. All other applicants will receive a letter from the Scholarship Committee relating its final decision.

May 25, 2019: If an award is made, scholarship recipient(s) will be announced and certificate(s) will be awarded by the Monterey County Historical Society. The scholarship recipients shall maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, a minimum of 12 units per semester and/or quarter throughout the life of the scholarship. It is the responsibility of the recipient to keep the Monterey County Historical Society Scholarship Committee informed of their academic status as the school year progresses in order to receive additional scholarship payments.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Application should be typed. REMEMBER YOUR APPLICATION SPEAKS FOR YOU!
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation preferably from faculty members, academic counselors, or individuals that can speak to your personal characteristics, motivation, and your potential for your major.
  • Submit an Essay, no more than three pages containing; Your area of study, past achievements, financial need, long and short-term educational goals, and any additional information you may want the Scholarship Committee to consider.
  • Each applicant is responsible for carefully reading the scholarship requirements and submitting all the material indicated.
  • Incomplete scholarship packets will not be accepted by the Monterey County Historical Society.
  • Official transcripts from current college/university and transcripts from other colleges/universities must be obtained by the applicant and submitted to:
