Volunteer Opportunities

The Monterey County Historical Society offers a variety of programs for those who wish to impart their talents to the on-going endeavor of the Society to collect and preserve the history of the county and provide a quality atmosphere for all people to learn by and enjoy.

The Society offers hands-on training for archival receiving and processing of historic documents and artifacts; cataloging and data input; photograph processing; and finally but not least assistance in research for the many patrons who use the materials in the archival vault.

We are seeking individuals to train for tours of the Boronda Adobe from 1–4 p.m. on Saturday of each month, and to assist in large tours during the week. The training will include the history of the Adobe, the Lagunita Schoolhouse, the William H. Weeks House, The Filipino Labor Camp bunkhouse, the Bataan Monument and our plans for the future development of the History Center.

A person with expertise in agricultural equipment is needed to chair a committee focused on seeking community assistance in the restoration and preservation of the many donated items.

We are seeking a qualified architect to assist us with the renovation of the William Weeks House.

There is always a need for those interested in both general and project-specific fund raising as well as assisting in the continued growth of the MCHS Museum’s Founders Club.

As the Society continues to grow with the completion of the Agricultural and Cultural Museum, the William H. Weeks House, the Agricultural Pole Barn, the original Salinas Jail, and development of the Boronda History Center, so will the Society’s needs and volunteers.

You are invited to be on the ground floor, assist the Society today with our present needs, be a part of our growth, and a key factor in the development of new programs, and the training of future volunteers. If you wish to volunteer for any of the above needs please give us a call at 831-757-8085 or email us at mchs@redshift.com
