Humbled: How California’s Monterey Bay Escaped Industrial Ruin

This book, by Glenn Church and Kathryn McKenzie details how “a small environmental group bloomed into a mass movement, using every means at its disposal …” to prevent Humble Oil from building a refinery on the shores of Monterey Bay. The movement successfully “swamped the refinery project and eventually dismantled plans for a vast industrial complex.”
The Monterey County Historical Society will be hosting Zoom presentations given by the authors.
The authors will donate 25 percent of the net proceeds of book sales resulting from these Zoom presentations to MCHS. Those wishing to be invited to the zoom presentations can email James Perry at mchs@redshift.com.
