Humbled: How California’s Monterey Bay Escaped Industrial Ruin

This book, by Glenn Church and Kathryn McKenzie details how “a small environmental group bloomed into a mass movement, using every means at its disposal …” to prevent Humble Oil from building a refinery on the shores of Monterey Bay. The movement successfully “swamped the refinery project and eventually dismantled plans for a vast industrial complex.”

The Monterey County Historical Society is hosting Zoom presentations given by the authors on Saturday, October 17 at 3pm again on Wednesday, November 18 at 7pm and finally on Wednesday, December 16 at 7pm.
